['griːnspæn], Alan, amerikanischer Wirtschaftsfachmann, * New York 6. 3. 1926; nach seiner Tätigkeit als Finanzberater gründete Greenspan 1953 eine Unternehmensberatung (»Townsend-Greenspan & Company«), die Aufträge für bedeutende amerikanische Finanz- und Industrieunternehmen ausführte. 1968/69 war Greenspan wirtschaftspolitischer Berater von Präsident R. Nixon und wurde von ihm 1974 zum Vorsitzenden des »Council of Economic Advisers« ernannt. Als Berater von Präsident G. Ford (bis 1977) wurde er v. a. durch seinen Kampf gegen die Inflation bekannt. Seit 1987 ist Greenspan Vorsitzende der Notenbank (Federal Reserve System).
